WAR RAGED & WE BECAME REFUGEES
"
Now therefore, do not be afraid; I will provide for you and your little ones.” Genesis 50:21a
War came to Pajok, home to God's Tender Mercy orphanage, school and church in late 2016. After skirmishes on the village outskirts and 150 teens forcibly taken from schools to fight in the army, fear gripped the community. Our children hid in the bush; food and water was very scarce. War coming to the village was imminent so plans were made to get the children to safety. Pajok was indeed ravaged, residents brutally murdered and raped.

The God's Tender Mercy family of 22 planned to leave through the bush, but by God's grace they crossed into Uganda in a truck and traveled to a nearby  town for shelter. David was arrested being from South Sudan, but God was merciful and the police released him the next day saying "Take your family out of our town and register in the refugee camp a couple hours north." When they arrived at the camp, home to over 100,000 refugees and hundreds of miles from their home, they learned the camp was full.

God ultimately provided a safe place for the family to live and, in time, provided availability to enroll 18 children in school. David, ministry manager, began sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with hopeless souls pouring across the Ugandan border as refugees barely surviving in the many refugee camps. Only the Lord Jesus Christ can shed light in this dark place, bring peace where there is none, and give comfort where suffering abounds.

DISPLACED YET AGAIN
"I want mercy not sacrifice." Hosea 6:6

A year and a half passed and life found a rhythm. The children settled in school and David's ministry expanded in the nearby refugee camp and surrounding town.  In January 2018, David received a call from a pastor in a northern Uganda refugee camp telling of children, ages 5-12, orphaned from S. Sudan's civil war. They had not a soul on earth to care for them and they spent their days seeking food. With much prayer, David traveled a few hours north to gather as many as he could. He brought 14 children to his home, trusting the Lord for provision. Soon, his landlord wanted 3x the rent money (which he did not have) and neighbors complained about the children and problems with the shared latrine. The landlord evicted them; they have until June to find a new home.  The Lord laid on our hearts the possibility of building a home since He already opened ministry in the town and nearby refugee camp.
It seemed God was telling us to stay in this town. We enjoined people to pray for God's will.

GOD SENDS A FELLOW WORKER
"Bear one another's burdens..." Galatians 6:2a

Like God called Ananias and Saul (Acts 9:11) to meet at Straight Street, He joined two servants with the same heart - to love orphaned children in Jesus' name. Jeff Huber from Maryland, GTM's founder, and Michael Hartle from Pennsylvania, Children's Home Chain founder, were introduced by a mutual friend. CHC's vision is to partner American brethren with African ministries to bring the love of Jesus Christ to orphaned children by building Children's Homes. In January 2018, the Hartles visited David to learn about the ministry, evangelize, and provide discipleship training in the refugee camp. Unbeknownst to Michael, in less than 60 days, God would call CHC to help David build a Children's Home.

WITNESSING DIVINE PREPARATION
"God has sent the members...in the body just as He pleased." 1 Corinthians 12:18

We're exceedingly blessed to watch God's will unfold in these ministries. Many saints have gathered together to help provide a new home for the children. We praise God for touching their hearts to sell belongings, have yard sales and donate to provide for land and a building. David found land parcels close to the refugee camp. GTM has now purchased land, built two 2 room houses. Each house has a small room between the full size rooms. These small rooms will serve as David and Grace's bedroom and David's sister Rupina's bedroom. One house is for the boys and the other for the girls. CHC raised $12,000 to build the first house. GTM raised money to build the second house and a larger kitchen/storage building. Ultimately, the Lord provided and continues to provide what we need. All praise be to Him!

Join our journey - witness God moving in men's hearts to the glory and praise of His great Name.
