Sponsorship Program FAQ
"And whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, assuredly, I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward." Matt. 10:42
It is our prayer that the Sponsorship Program will support the children's personal and educational needs through a pooled effort of the Body of Christ.
How much does an education sponsorship cost? We enrolled 35 of the 36 children in school for an opportunity to escape the abject poverty they've always known. The oldest girl, Scovia, is now out of school. Tuition, uniforms, and other required expenses cost approximately $30/mo/child. We pray for 35 committed sponsors to help these children.
Contributions are tax deductible as allowed by law. God’s Tender Mercy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
How much does a basic needs sponsorship cost? To maintain the ministry family of 36 children it costs approximately $30/mo/child. That includes rent, food, clothing, transportation and medical. One child suffers from Sickle Cell Anemia which adds to medical costs. A second child may have Sickle Cell Anemia but it has not been confirmed by testing yet. We are praying for regular partners to help cover their basic needs.
Can I give a one time donation? Yes. Until the Lord calls regular sponsors, donations of any amount are needed to meet expenses. Once needs are met, one time donations provide beyond the basics and help provide for outreach materials.
What are sponsorship responsibilities? A sponsor supports the ministry in two ways:
What information will I receive about the children? Depending on communication from Uganda, we'll send a quarterly e-news update on God’s Tender Mercy Ministry and the welfare of the children. There will also be interim updates on the God’s Tender Mercy Facebook page.
How long will my sponsorship last? Sponsorships are month to month and last as long as God calls you to support this ministry.
Will I be assigned an individual child to sponsor? No, but you'll journey with all the children as they grow through photos and email updates.
Is sponsorship money pooled? Yes. Because gifts are pooled to care for all children equally, an individual child is not affected by sponsor turnover.
Who cares for the children? David, his wife Grace and sister Rupina provide the day-to-day care for the children.
How much of my money goes to the mission field?
How do I send support?
What will I receive for my taxes?
For Checks that are sent directly to the God's Tender Mercy office, you'll receive a summary tax statement each year.
For one time Credit Card/ACH/eCheck donations, you'll receive a confirmation from Joy to the World Foundation to retain for tax purposes. If you setup a recurring donation, you will only receive confirmation for setting up the recurring donation not a monthly receipt. A year end summary is available for download from the Joy to the World Foundation website (www.joytotheworldfoundation.org). For processing issues, you may call 1-800-5314075. Your confirmation will look something like this:
Thank you XXX for donating to the God's Tender Mercy project. You have donated $xx by Credit Card. This is your receipt for the gift, you will not be mailed a receipt unless requested. Please retain this receipt to substantiate your giving for 2019, as you will not receive a separate year-end receipt. All gifts to Joy To The World Foundation (Tax ID#: 72-1551621) are tax deductible. No goods or services were provided to the donor in exchange for this gift. The Joy To The World Foundation has exclusive legal control over all assets contributed to the foundation.
What is the future of God’s Tender Mercy Ministry? God has a plan for God's Tender Mercy ministry; the task of GTM ministry leaders is to be in tune with God's leading and to move in His direction. Currently the children are in a safe place and they are enrolled in school. David is sharing/teaching about Jesus Christ with the people in his town. The staff is currently only David, Grace and Rupina caring for the children. The family of 39 has settled into a life in Uganda, among tens of thousands of other refugees. As David shares the Gospel of Jesus Christ with hopeless souls pouring across the border and those surviving in refugee camps, the Lord will work in their hearts. As people respond, David will teach them the Word of God. Only the Lord Jesus Christ can shed light in this dark place, bring peace where there is none, and give comfort where suffering abounds. Pray for David as he loves these children and evangelizes for the Lord Jesus Christ.
